The end of an era in Blog 0October 8, 2011

We’ve reached the end of an era – the house is off West Potomac Park and back in the Crane Rental Company (actual name) crane yard in pieces. The houses needed to be off site by 7pm on Thursday evening. We managed this a day early and got the final sign off to say we had picked up every scrap and nail from our site.

The team is working hard to get the house all packed up and back into containers. The first group of students head off on their way this weekend and the rest will stick around for an extra week to make sure everything makes it into the containers to be shipped back to NZ!

It’s been an incredibly exciting and memorable trip but soon it’s back to real life for the team.  This project has taken a whole lot of time, effort and commitment from the entire team and it’s now time to get back to exams, assignments and work.

The First Light house will also start a slightly slower pace of life once back in New Zealand. Its final destination is yet to be determined by Susan, the new owner but we’re hoping when it’s put up this time it will be there to stay for a long time.

A big thank you is needed from the team here to everyone who has followed along with the progress of the project.  It was amazing to know there was so much support back home.  This was more than a Victoria University entry or a Wellington entry; it was a New Zealand entry. We hope we did you proud New Zealand!
